Steve Pederson fired

Interestingly, Chancellor Perlman says that he decided to do this last Thursday - before the game against OSU. Two questions I have:

1) Did Pederson get lucky at Pitt and/or unlucky here? They think he was the best thing since sliced bread at Pitt - and he got great results. I think it has as more to do with his treatment of his own staff (lots of people quitting in the last couple of years), his coldness towards big money boosters, and a cold management style than it does with the utter failure of his football staff.

2) Do they want to bring in a new A.D. because there is a need to hire a new football coaching staff, and they couldn't trust Pederson to do it?

I think the overall disease is much worse. The NE football program, as well as their fans, have lost their souls to the devil of "win at any cost". NE has forgotten that the reason our dominance in the 90s felt so good was that we were relieved from such a long draught, and we became addicted to winning it all, suffering withdrawal symptoms in the absence of a championship.

Losing wouldn't feel so bad if we had stuck with the NE character: 3 yards in a cloud of dust using corn fed beef in the offensive line, and strong focus on defense. NE football should be targeted at the farmers, not the rich boosters who buy expensive boxes. Now NE just looks like everyone else who has sold out - there is nothing special about NE that makes me proud to be a fan win or lose. I say scrap the boxes, return to the running game, remember the inscription over the stadium, and stand by a team with an identifiable character win or lose, instead of cheering for the color red.

Kubakis are in town and Jim is all excited about Pederson being fired. He says now he can be a fan again. He is leaving today. Dad filled him in about some of the reasons Solich was fired.
