What do you think?

Here is my personal opinion - I think Bo Pelini has already been offered the job and accepted.  The reason TO went recuiting during the latter part of the week is because Bo didn't want an announcement made until after the SEC championship this Saturday.

Or, they could be waiting for the Navy coach's season to end so that he can be interviewed.  What do you think?

Coaching Search

Lincoln Journal-Star is reporting that a plane left Lincoln for Baton Rouge this afternoon, and was then going to Atlanta. Turner Gill has also been given permission to interview, and Brian Kelly (Cincinnati) is not commenting, but is also being mentioned. Sounds like Osborne is going to travel to Atlanta (location of the search firm he contracted to help with the search) to do the interviews over the next few days. Probably a smart way to do it - avoids all the press here in town, camped out at the airport and the athletic dep't. I predict an announcement before next weekend.

Thanksgiving in CA

We had a really great Thanksgiving Day and dinner with Linda, Doug, Paul, and Lawrence visiting from the LA area. Yesterday, we all (except Doug, who had to work) went down to Tijuana, Mexico (about an hour South), for lunch and shopping. It was a very nice day - sunny in the low 60s (same as today, Sat.). The arch in the second picture is a monument to an old mission in Tijuana. Bottom pic is Thanksgiving dinner at our house in Carlsbad.

Also watched NE blow it on national TV. Hope Tom does a comprehensive job of cleaning house.

Press Conference

Tom Osborne met with Callahan at 7:30 this morning, the press conference will happen at 9:30 a.m.  Let the speculation begin.

Cyclocross Race

With the nice weather this weekend, I rode the bike with some friends out to Pioneers Park to watch the Nebraska State Cyclocross championships - some of the folks I ride with on teamFIRE were riding in the races. I had never seen this sport before - it is really intense and difficult. It's a cross between road biking and mountain biking. Most of the race is held on grass or dirt, with occasional obstacles and hills where the riders have to dismount and carry the bike up the hill or over the obstacles (which are like hurdles about 2 feet high) at a dead run. We sat at the top of the biggest hill, where people ring cowbells and scream encouragement to the racers as they sprint up the hill - some of the spectators tape dollar bills to a tree next to the course - the racers grab them as they go by. In the top pic, we are sitting and waiting for the race to start - the girl laid out just finished her race (she placed second) and could barely move. The next pic shows some racers begin to dismount as they approach the hill. The next two show guys on my team climbing the hill - check out the pain in their facial expressions. In the bottom pic, you can see a couple of kids holding out a clif bar and a dollar to see if the racers will take them. Good fun (to watch, anyway)!

Knoxville and Miami Trip

We took the family to Knoxville to visit their old friends last weekend (F-M), and had a fantastic time. We went to Dollywood (which is now really a lot of fun - they've got some great new rides, and its all decked out for Christmas), visited their old farm with their friends, and had a block party in the old neighborhood. We stayed with the parents of one of Caitlyn's closest friends, Savannah Kucera.

The trip made us really miss Knoxville, but things are going pretty well here in CA too. On the back end of the Knoxville trip I flew to Miami for a business meeting (see picture out my hotel room back door). It was an incredible hotel called the Grove Island Hotel and Spa, but I didn't really get to enjoy it (meetings all day and night). Tues. night, though, we had a cooking contest as a kind of team building exercise, and a gourmet chef coached us and then took what we made and turned it into an excellent meal.

Good week for Tommy and Kayla

Tommy and Kayla had a good week. Tommy was inducted into the National Honor Society at Southeast, and played trumpet in the NMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble. He got to play a solo for a packed house of 2500 at the Lied Center.

On Friday we found out that Kayla was selected to the 8th grade All-State Band, and was named first chair clarinet. She will be performing in January in Kearney with the All-State Band.

Husker Rumor

Thought I would let you all know the latest. Lincoln Journal Star has seemingly confirmed that Bo Pellini flew into Lincoln last week and that his wife joined him the next day. I have a staff member whose husband works at Journal star

A Weekend in Hollywood

We had an interesting and fun weekend. Saturday, while the kids and Chris were at horseback riding and dance, I was at the family house of a co-worker whose brother and mother lost their house in the fires. Their 4,000 square foot, two-story house was literally reduced to 3 feet of ash, mixed with broken ceiling tiles, and we were hand sorting through it (using shovels and sifters) to try and find any valuables. The metal actually melted. Most jewelry was vaporized, and coins were fused together and unrecognizable. My small group found several small jewelry boxes, but only one still had a ring in it, and one small frozen puddle of melted gold. Probably the most valuable thing I found was a totally intact china teacup from a kids set that somehow survived when everthing else was destroyed. Very dirty, sad work.

Anyway, later that day we drove up to LA and got there just as Universal Studios was closing, so we got on just two rides (last time we were there we bought a year pass for just $10 more). The real reason we braved the traffic was to go see "Wicked", a broadway musical, at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. The theater doesn't look like much on the outside, but it was very ornate on the inside. The musical was absolutely outstanding - we all loved it. Well worth the trouble of LA.

Summer Project

The colors were peaking in the backyard today, and I'm sick of watching KU score, so I thought I'd post some pics of the deck Julie and I built this summer. We tore up all of the old floor, rails, and steps, kept the old frame, then built a new frame out about 6 feet or so from the old frame. All of the deck past the stairs is new construction.

Here is a winter pic of the old deck.

Halloween in CA

We had hundreds of kids come by (its seemed). I took Sarah around and Caitlyn went with friends. Both girls made up their own ideas/costumes this year. Sarah went as "Clashy Girl" (as opposed to "Classy Girl"), and Caitlyn went as... A Teenager. Scary! (Just kidding, she was "Workout Barbie").

Happy Halloween!

Thought I'd share a couple of before-and-after Halloween pictures.
Jared is the Ninja Warrior, Sean is Spiderman. Hope everyone had a great Halloween!!
